Blue is very common in logos in general.  Wired had a piece several years ago with an interesting graphic showing the large proportion of logos that were mostly or entirely blue.  They put the text on the Web, but not (for some reason) the graphic.  Luckily, someone put it on Flickr.

Heck, the globe is incorporated into the vast majority of the examples you&#039;ve given! Even the IE logo, when animated, used to incorporate the globe.

Why overthink it?</description>

You&#039;re right. There are about 7 versions of the Netscape logo I was able to dig up online. The square I featured here came right after they ditched the ship wheel and right before they homogenized and went round.</description>
