It'll carry over 1000 amps for a few seconds, or tens of thousands for a fraction of a second, before the fusible part melts and breaks the circuit. Thing is, I've had my fingers across lots of 48-volt terminals and it doesn't even break the skin unless I'm sweaty first. It's those 130-volt T1 lines with span power that suck!
