Not only will this kill you, it will hurt the whole time you are dying.

Danger Sign

DANGER
DO NOT TOUCH
Not only will this kill you, it will hurt the whole time you are dying.

Don’t tell my boss, but occasionally, even I run across a message so clear and so profound that applying standard graphic design principles to the presentation would do little to make it any clearer.

UPDATE: 12/17/08

This post is pretty popular and we’ve got a few of these hanging around the office now. So, if you’d like your own hilariously scary warning sign, just download one of these ready-to-print versions we’ve made for your convenience:

DANGER Signage

These warning signs come with a warning: Voltage Creative is not responsible for your use of these signs. If any sort of boy-who-cried-wolf situation arises because of them: well, we told you so. Use these caution signs with extreme caution. In fact we recommend that you don’t use them at all, lest through their use you die painfully because you’ve made yourself immune to signage about dying painfully.

  6. Except that blad roster’s wife’s site isn’t his wife’s site… it is either an attempt at humor, or a juvenile revenge site, but it obviously isn’t hers.

Only this time the advantage is mine!!

  8. Read the Ex-Wife blog, the part about being cut off at the bar is really funny! I can however see how her drinking would cause a problem.

“I’m not illiterate, I’m and American!”

So what is under the glass ?

It’s a BDFB (Battery Distribution Fuse Bay) most likely in a phone company central office or a data center. -48V DC at around 600 amps behind the Plexiglas. It’s not really as dangerous as you would think, as long as you don’t stick metal objects in there and cross the hot with the ground.

  36. Well I am a master Electrician and I have see a lot of accidents accrue but FYI it’s the current that kill you and not the voltage it runs all over your body till it finds a place to explodes out and your hart is pumping and you cook from the inside agonizing and it’s something you don’t wish on anyone.
This why safety procedures are in play like Lock out and of coerce a license professional at hand!!.

  38. Thank the lord for your informative style of communication. You see, I have a rare condition whereby I need to see a joke at least 3 times to find it funny, and you, ever considerate of our small, and often ignored community’s needs were kind enough to include the humorous material not only in the URL, the tab description, the title, the picture AND then transcribe it below the picture. I salute you, sir.

    • 08:53 AM 03.10.09 by bob drinnen
  49. Hey Ogre, nice to see someone else in the industry. :) Looks like a Lucent BDFB to me too, the square holes are really distinctive.

The main feeds are fused at 400 amps, but a fuse that’s nominally 400 amps can carry that indefinitely without blowing. It’ll carry over 1000 amps for a few seconds, or tens of thousands for a fraction of a second, before the fusible part melts and breaks the circuit.

Thing is, I’ve had my fingers across lots of 48-volt terminals and it doesn’t even break the skin unless I’m sweaty first. It’s those 130-volt T1 lines with span power that suck!

  51. I love funny made custom signs like this, it would make a hilarious T-shirt for my sister who has large breast and is always complaining about men staring at them lol.

  52. My dad had a bottle of stuff in his workshop long ago. I don’t know what was in it, but he had made a label saying, “Having consumed the contents of this bottle, you have approximately 15 minutes left to say goodbye.”
